You also have your expressions like “I’m bored to death”, which is mainly said by teens when they are in their adolescents phase and the more they say expressions at school the more it becomes useful and part of our English vocabulary. Another expression is “call it a day” which means I’m going to be done with my work for today and that became a commonly said phrase in the work place. A lot of these expressions mean the same thing but are became advanced throughout the years. All of these phrases and many more started from someone and expanded from there. Now they are the most useful things on earth.
Many expressions aren’t very useful and don’t last very long throughout the years. A lot of expressions don’t do what they’re meant to do and that is where the contrast comes into this blog because certain expressions don’t agree with others. You’ll have expressions that don’t do or used how they are supposed to and it messes every thing up.
The only way for an expression to become useful and work properly in an everyday life is if someone says it over and over and over again. It takes years for expressions to evolve and become one with the people. Many phrases don’t last very long through out the years because either they are no longer used in 21st century context or they aren’t cool enough to say with you friends at school or the work place. We could go on for hours about how expressions are becoming useful and how they become one as a whole, but the real question you should ask your self is why do we use expressions and how are they useful to me and my vocabulary?
Well majority of expressions aren’t helpful to your vocabulary and don’t make you sound smarter but, they normally are words put together to make a relatable reference and it sticks. Then you hear them through out the years and you start to say them and you pass them down from generations to generations and making new ones along the way. But, every expression, phrase, idiom all start from one root phrase and like I have said many times become popular and are used among many people.
One of the most used expressions I have ever heard while growing up was “24-7” and that can be used in so many ways and its very useful expression among well everybody. Because it could be I like have worked that long today. It also means 24 hours and 7 days a week which it basically every second of the day until the end of time. Another one is “don’t sweat it”, which meant while I was growing up don’t worry about it you’ll be fine. I definitely was told this when I took my intermediate driving test last year. I cant forget about the expression/phrase “cut corners”, this can be used so many ways but I will go over a few that I use when using this phrase In context. It can be used when working on a project because you want to do your best and not only part of it. Another one is when your playing a game you don’t want to cut the corners, but its not mainly know for that particular use. These are the main ways that we use it but there are many other ways to use this expression.
I will be talking about some more useful phrase that can be used everyday. “Beats me” is used so much that you will hear it everywhere you go. Majority of the people use this phrase when they are stumped on something. When people use this phrase they hardly use it the way that it means and not how its in context.
I hope that this blog was very informative and taught you how expressions and phrases become useful in an everyday situation. Also, if you have any other expressions that you use please comment on my blog and let me know because I want to know what my piers say on an everyday basis to help me better my vocabulary and so I can inform others.
